Mo Yan - Clarinet Teacher

Mo was an active clarinet player in UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble and UBC Symphony Orchestra. She also served as UBC Music Graduate Academic Assistant during the 2020-2021 school year. In 2021, Mo got into the final list of UBC wind brass and percussion solo competition. In 2020, Mo got selected to study in the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.

In 2019, Mo Yan got her Bachelor of Music degree with a double major in Clarinet Performance and Music Education from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She worked as a student teacher in Adams Elementary and Kellogg Middle School in 2018 and 2019. In 2017, Mo got selected to study with Professor Chad Burrow at Sewanee Music Festival in Tennessee. Besides, Mo also served as a Chinese Mandarin interpreter and event coordinator in the 2016 and 2019 University of Washington Wind Ensemble China tours.

In July 2018, Mo participated in the CU Boulder conducting symposium and the UMKC conducting symposium to study wind band conducting and chamber music conducting.

Mo has been teaching clarinet private lessons since 2017. Every year, when possible, Mo devoted her time to volunteer and teach summer band programs in Beijing, China. Mo loves to help young students to think independently and find their unique voices.

Mo’s main mentors include Jose Franch-Ballester, Benjamin Lulich, Jennifer Nelsen, and Zhao-Xin Che. Mo also studied with Chad Burrow, James Campbell, and Alain Desgagné.
